PURPOSE: A power train of five speed automatic transmission provides five speed forward movements and one speed backward movement with two simple planetary gear sets and seven friction elements. CONSTITUTION: A power train comprises a complex planetary gear set, three power input devices, two power output devices and two brakes. The complex planetary gear set comprises a planetary carrier(9) of a first single pinion planetary gear set(3) and a ring gear(17) of a second single pinion planetary gear set(5) connected immovably to each other, and a ring gear(11) of the first single pinion planetary gear set(3) and a planetary carrier(15) of the second single pinion planetary gear set(5) connected immovably to each other. Three power input devices input power to any three operating elements of all operating elements of the complex planetary gear set variably. Two power output devices make any two operating elements of all operating elements of the first single pinion planetary gear set(3) output power variably. Two brake act as reaction force elements.
