The wear protection for walls of tubes, at the firebox of a steam generator using fossil fuels and especially coal dust, has shaped sections (1) to hold together the parallel rows of tubes (2) with webs (3) between them. The shaped sections (1) are between the tube (2), along the webs (3), so that the tubes are not shrouded. The shaped sections (1) project over the height of the tubes (2) by at least one-half of the tube dia. The sections (1) are divided into a number of segments to give sliding gaps (4) between them to take up longitudinal expansion. The shaped sections (1) have a T-shaped cross section, with a convex surface extending into the firebox.
