The magnetic seal for sealing a gap between a housing (2) and a rotating component (3) in it comprises a magnet (10) positioned between two pole shoes (8, 9) within the housing. These generate a magnetic field which retains a magnetisable liquid in the gap. The novelty is that the outer pole shoe (9) is attached to the housing by welding, soldering or using an adhesive.
