The socket (10) for a hip joint prosthesis has a bearing cup (12) with a number of anchors (26) projecting outwards at its outer mantle surface, each with a collar (32). The anchors (26) are formed by a forged anchor component (14) with a ring-shaped bonding section with the shaped anchors (26) distributed around the periphery. The forged anchor ring (14) is welded to the forged bearing cup (12).
