PURPOSE: A Chinese character search system is provided to enable a user to search for a chinese character using a part included in the chinese character as a similar or virtual strokes although the user does not know a right strokes. The strokes is an index used in a Chinese character dictionary. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises an input device(1), a database(2), a search device(3), and an output device(4). The input device(1) allows the user to input a strokes for searching a Chinese character. The database(2) includes a code, a meaning, a sound, a stroke number, a right strokes index, and an auxiliary strokes index. The right strokes index includes a characteristic strokes code assigned to the right strokes. The auxiliary strokes index includes a characteristic strokes code assigned to partial characters comprising the corresponding Chinese character. The search device(3) compares the characteristic strokes index, input in the input device(1), with the right strokes index and the auxiliary strokes index stored in the database(2), and extracts the corresponding character if a matched result exits.
