PURPOSE: To provide a color picture tube enhancing a visibility by shaping an effective surface of a shadow mask to have high curved surface holding strength, thereby decreasing a difference of a thickness of a inner and outer surface of an effective part of a panel. CONSTITUTION: A color picture tube has a panel(3) having an outer surface of an effective part(1) of a substantially short shape which is almost flat or slightly curved and a shadow mask(9) having a substantially shot-shaped effective surface(6) of a curved surface forming a convex-shape on the side of a fluorescent screed(5t), wherein when 1<RHC/RHA=<3 when a minimum value of a radius of a curvature of a minor axis of the effective surface is RVmin, a maximum value is 1>Rvmin/Rvmax>=0.3, an average radius of a curvature of the major axis direction is RHA and a radius of a curvature of a major axis direction in of the center the effective surface is RHC.
