<p>A dispersion shift optical fiber comprises a center core part (1), a step core part (2) having a refractive index smaller than that of the center core part (1), and a clad (7) provided around the step core part (2) and having a refractive index smaller than that of the step core part (2). In a wavelength band for use selected from the range from 1490 to 1625 nm, the wavelength dispersion is 7-15 ps/km/nm, Aeff is 60-150 νm2, the dispersion slope is 0.09 ps/km/nm2, the bending loss is 100 dB/m or less. The fiber has a cut-off wavelength at which the propagation is substantially the single-mode propagation. The system cost is reduced, and the transmission characteristics are improved.</p> |
