The device, e.g. for withdrawing a cannula (20) with sharpened tip inserted into an implantable chamber (9), consists of an inflatable envelope (2) and a tube (3) connected to a syringe (23) of a liquid or gas via a non-return valve (4). The envelope is mounted on a rigid disc (5) with a radial slot for fitting it round the cannula, so that on inflation it lifts the cannula safely and covers its tip while it is being handled.
