PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed lead-acid battery having a long service life and superior high-rate discharging characteristics. SOLUTION: This sealed lead-acid battery is composed with a separator of three-layer structure, the outer layer thereof is composed with retainers for holding an electrolytic solution, while the central layer is composed with fine porous films 1 made of polyethylene resin or polypropylene resin. The retainer A (2) contacting a negative electrode plate 5 has a greater solution holding capacity and greater mean pore diameter than the retainer B (3) contacting with the positive electrode plate 4.
