PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation of speed control by temperature variation of VCM when idle seed of a magnetic disk device is performed by speed control using back electromotive voltage of a VCM(voice coil motor) actuator. SOLUTION: This is a timing chart showing that calibration of speed control is performed by reading out a track number on a magnetic disk medium and other control information properly and using them. After speed control by detecting back electromotive voltage of a VCM actuator is performed for a certain fixed time, feeding of a MR sense current and read-write-LSI are temporarily performed, positioning information on a magnetic disk medium is read out, and stability of control is secured by performing calibration of parameters used for speed control. Thereby, as positioning information on a magnetic disk medium is not always used, its operation can be controlled stably suppressing power consumption during idle seek operation. Use environment in which a portable system using a note type personal computer and the other magnetic disk device is operated with battery is improved.
