A method for producing titanium tetrafluoride from uranium tetrafluoride. An oxide of titanium (18) such as titanium dioxide and uranium tetrafluoride (16), both solid refractory materials, are combined. The combination is heated (20) below the melting point of uranium tetrafluoride to produce (22) non-radioactive titanium tetrafluoride gas (30) and a uranium oxide compound (26). The titanium tetrafluoride gas is removed (24) from the mixture and condensed as a pure material.
