PURPOSE: A shaft assembly for a washing machine is provided to reduce a friction noise generated by the contact of a movable clutch element with other parts when the movable clutch element is moving or rotating. CONSTITUTION: A shaft assembly for a washing machine includes a fixed clutch element(61) coupled with a driving motor shaft to rotate integrally, a movable clutch element(57) able to slide in an axial line direction of a spin basket and engaged with the fixed clutch element to rotate integrally when lowered, a clutch guide element(55) coupled with the spin basket for guiding the sliding motion of the movable clutch element, and a clutch sliding element(59) for sliding the movable clutch element.
