PURPOSE: To preferably prevent development of edge overcoat and splash. CONSTITUTION: A gas wiping device is provided with gas wiping nozzles 2, 2 extended in a width direction of a steel strip 9 advancing upward after pulling up from molten metal, shield plates 6, 6 disposed to height containing a colliding point A of spouted gas from the nozzles 2, 2 against the steel strip on an extending plane in the width direction of the steel strip near both sides of the steel strip and edge wiping nozzles 7 disposed by positioning the gas spouting hole 71 at the downstream side in the advancing direction of the steel strip from the colliding point A between the inside of the shield plate 6 and the edge part 91 of the steel strip 9, and spouting the gas on the extended plane in the width direction of the steel strip toward the upstream side of the advancing direction of the steel strip. A gap C (mm) between the edge part 91 and the inside of the shield plate 6 is made to 4-7 mm, and in the case of using L (mm) for distance between the gas spouting hole 71 of the nozzle 7 and the gas colliding point A, the relation between the distance L and the gap C satisfies -2.0C+20=<L=<-2.5C+45.
