PURPOSE: A television receiver with a function of setting up audio mode automatically is provided to search type of sound effect of a current broadcasting, and to set up the most proper audio mode when channel is changed or a user watches a new program, by basing on EPG(electronic program guide) information supplied in the broadcasting. CONSTITUTION: When a user changes channel through a user inputting unit(1), a system controlling unit(9) transmits channel change information to a demultiplexing unit(3) according to input of the user. The demultiplexing unit(3) outputs EPG(electronic program guide) information received after channel is changed to an EPG data processing unit(8). The EPG data processing unit(8) transmits a signal that reception of EPG information of a channel selected currently is completed to the system controlling unit(9). The system controlling unit(9) commands an automatic audio mode setting unit(19) to set up the most proper audio mode to a program of the channel selected currently. The automatic audio mode setting unit(19) requests program information of the current channel to the EPG data processing unit(8). Then, the automatic audio mode setting unit(19) notifies the most proper audio mode to a sound effect processing unit(15) by basing on information received from the EPG data processing unit(8). Therefore, sound effect of audio is set up automatically. The automatic audio mode setting unit(19) also displays current audio mode on screen by outputting title of sound effect of each genre to a displaying unit(6).
