The method involves deploying the output of an electric motor (4) supplied by an accumulator (7) in addition to muscle power when demand is increased. A freely selectable amount of power can be delivered to the drive wheel or wheels and the motor power is only added if the selected drive power exceeds the human muscle power, pref. the continuous muscle power, otherwise the motor acts as a generator and charges the accumulator. An Independent claim is also included for a vehicle for implementing the method.
