A system for establishing, and optionally maintaining, a desired atmosphere for perishable or atmosphere-sensitive goods during their storage and/or transportation, the system including: a sealed enclosure which surrounds the goods (10, 20, 80); a first valve (150) and a second valve (130) coupled to the sealed enclosure; a tank (170) containing a gas therein; a hose (180) having a first end coupled to the first valve (190); an automated valve (160) coupled to the tank (170), wherein a second end of the hose (180) is coupled to the automated valve (160); at least one sensor (140) coupled to the second valve (130), wherein the sensor (140) receives an atmosphere sample from within the sealed enclosure via the second valve (130) and measures at least one parameter associated with the atmosphere; and a controller (150) coupled to the at least one sensor (140) and the automated valve (160), wherein the controller (150) receives data from the sensor (140) and automatically opens or closes the automated valve (160) in response to the data so as to either start or stop the gas from flowing into the sealed enclosure.
