The present invention relates to a lighter (10) including a housing (12) having a handle at one end (14) and a nozzle (18) at another end and includi ng a fuel supply (22) connected for selective fluid communication with the nozz le (18). A release member (36) is cooperatively connected to the housing (12) t o initiate the flow of fuel from the fuel supply (22) to the nozzle (18). An ignitor (60), such as a piezoelectric mechanism, is provided for generating a spark proximate the nozzle (18). A trigger (52) spaced from the release memb er (36) is operatively connected to the housing (12) for actuating the ignitor (60) for the generation of a spark igniting the fuel present at the nozzle (18).
