<p>An instrument cluster lens assembly (20) includes a lens (22) having top (32) and bottom surfaces (34) and a mounting portion (40) that is mounted on a base (24) having at least one lens receiving portion (44). The lens mounting portion is laser welded to the lens receiving portion (44) of the base (24) to securely connect the lens (22) to the base thereby forming the lens assembly (20) for an instrument cluster. Preferably, the lens mounting portion (40) is transparent to laser light and the lens receiving portion (44) of the base (24) is opaque to laser light. A method of forming the instrument cluster lens assembly is also disclosed.</p> |
