APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING OPTIMUM DATA FOR HIERARCHICAL MOTION ESTIMATION AND THE METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An apparatus for providing optimum data for hierarchical motion estimation and the method thereof are provided so that an optimum memory size can be realized by supplying optimum data by storing only the size of an image block of an upper hierarchy instead of the entire frame. CONSTITUTION: An intermediate unit(110) intermediates the use of memory. A SDRAM(Synchronous RAM)(120) stores the current frame image and the previous frame image. SRAM(Static RAM)(140) stores the current and previous macro block image data. A motion estimator(ME:130) generates a motion vector(MV) and SAD(Sum of Absolute Difference). A data supply unit(200) transmits and receives the data required for the motion estimating between the intermediate unit(110), SDRAM(Synchronous DRAM)(120), motion estimator(ME:130) and SRAM(Static RAM)(140). The data supply unit(200) includes a data setting module for setting an initial data as a register file(240).
