The burner has a tangential supply of pneumatically conveyed coal dust and combustion air divided up into concentric partial streams. A spiral housing (3) acting to take up the supply of coal dust and air mixture is formed as a spirally revolving radial channel having a depth which reduces as the circumferential angle becomes greater. The spiral housing is spatially very short and has no installations in the dust inflow area so that the inflow area is very hard-wearing.
