PURPOSE: A method for implementing gradation of a PDP(Plasma Display Panel) is provided to enable the PDP to implement linear 256 gradations by differently giving a weight given during a discharge sustaining period of each subfields and eliminate contour noise. CONSTITUTION: A frame for implementing gradation is divided into 9 subfields each having a weight by reconstructing the past 8 bit data to 9 bit data. A weight of discharge sustaining period given to the first subfield corresponding to the least significant bit remains 1 and a weight of discharge sustaining period given to the ninth subfield corresponding to the most significant bit remains 128. Weights of discharge sustaining periods given to remaining adjacent second to seventh subfield are respectively given ratio of 2:4:6:12:24:48:96 which are middle values of weights ratio 2:4:8:16:32:64 adopted in the past 8 bit data. If a middle value of a remaining subfield is an odd number, 1 is added to the middle value to make the value an even number. The 9 subfields are selectively driven so that difference of number of subfield emitted between adjacent gradation values becomes the minimum. |
