PURPOSE: A display screen having a display area of variable size is provided to reduce electric power consumption for a screen display. CONSTITUTION: Electronic equipment with a processor, a screen and a screen controller for display of images in a variable geometry display zone. The controller has its own processor, distinct from that of the electronic equipment, with its own memory for storage of information relative to the display zone. An Independent claim is made for a screen controller for use with electronic equipment.
