The intake valve has peripheral flat recesses (5) in a section between valve shaft (1) and sealing surface of the valve seat (3). The recesses are formed as cutout volumes of a fictitious cylinder body with the top valve plate surface (2). The cylinder is inclined in flow intake direction and in radial direction against the top valve plate surface, the front end of the recess is axial, and its second end cuts across the seat ring area. The transition between recess and valve plate surface is rounded.
