PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for finding location of a mobile unit is provided to create and measure an event provided with a continuing time for only several nano-seconds by stipulating a symbol transition time between symbols by a frequency measurement value. CONSTITUTION: A method for processing a received phase-modulated (PM) signal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising the steps of generating first and second copies of the PM signal, phase demodulating the first copy to generate demodulated symbols for the PM signal, frequency demodulating the second copy to generate a measure of frequency for the PM signal, and identifying a time for a symbol transition between the demodulated symbols based on the measure of frequency.
