Process for electrochemical removal of nitrate ions from aqueous solutions

When reducing nitrate ions on a copper cathode a successive reduction of the cathode surface activity takes place and this causes reduction of electrolysis efficiency, too. In the present invention there is disclosed a process of electrochemical reduction of nitrate ions in aqueous solutions, whereby the process takes place in the presence of copper ions within concentration range of 0.1 to 50 mg.dme-3 in the electrolyte and at pH value thereof in the range of 7 to 14.
