A receptacle 3 has an optical element module 32 containing lead frame 54(55) having an optical element 52(53) and a connector housing 31 having a room 43 for accommodating and placing the lead frame, into which an optical plug having ferrule-mounted optical fibers at the end thereof is plugged. The connector housing 31 contains a socket cavity 42 for receiving the optical plug and a cylinder 44 being in communication with the socket cavity and the room. The optical element module contains a clad 61 formed in the cylinder, a core 59 forming an optical waveguide in combination with the clad, and a molded portion 56 united with the core. The core and the molded portion are made of a light-transmitting transparent resin that is filled into the inside of the clad and the room. The optical element may be a light emitting or receiving element. The module may contain one or two lead frames. |
