The automatic sharpener for the teeth on a dental prosthesis has cutting tools in a cassette with a base block (4) to releasably support the cassette (1) in a set position. The cassette has two openings (1a, 1a) in its front face to receive a tool carrier (3). The base block is fixed to the bed (5) of the sharpener. There are connectors on the cassette to hold it in place on the bed. A proximity sensor (10) on the base block detects when the cassette is in position.
