An exhaust valve with a hydraulic activator 13 has a valve element 25 displaceably guided in an actuator piston 19 in the longitudinal direction of the latter. A positioning element 28 can change the volume of a positioning chamber 42 in the actuator piston 19. A channel 22 for hydraulic fluid opens into a valve aperture 23 in the pressure chamber 21, and the valve element 25 can gradually diminish the aperture flow area by displacement towards the valve aperture 23. <IMAGE>
