A method of forming an edible receptacle for foodstuffs from a fruit or vegetable, which comprises the steps of, firstly cutting a cylindrical plug from a vegetable or fruit body. A tubular cutter 1, having a cutting wire 4 extending across an open end thereof is driven into the cylindrical plug to the desired depth. The cutter is then rotated to separate the material of the plug 5 within the tubular cutter from the remainder of the plug. Finally, the cutter is removed along with the material from within the plug. The invention also provides an apparatus for forming edible receptacles, which comprises all the necessary components to carry out the method. The apparatus may be in the form of a hand tool or an industrial machine (figs 4 and 5). The material removed may be used as a decorative food item. The vegetable may be a potato and the receptacle and material removed may be fried or baked. |
