RESIN COMPOSITION FOR PRODUCING ARTIFICIAL MARBLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve toughness and impact strength without deteriorating heat resistance by using both of a bisphenol type vinyl ester based resin and a novolac type vinyl ester resin as vinyl ester based resins in a resin composition. SOLUTION: Both of the bisphenol type vinyl ester based resin and the novolac type vinyl ester resin as vinyl ester based resins are preferably blended in a ratio by weight of 90/10 to 50/50 as the vinyl ester based resins in the resin composition for producing an artificial marble. The vinyl ester and a crosslinking agent such as styrene are mixed, and further, a filler, a curing agent and various additives are mixed. The composition is defoamed under a reduced pressure of about 3-50 Torr for about 5-30 min. The defoamed resin composition of the artificial marble is released from the pressure reduced state and poured into a prescribed metallic mold. The metallic mold is heated at about 50-100 deg.C for about 30-120 min to advance the copolymerization reaction of the vinyl ester resin in the composition with a crosslinking agent to be cured and formed.
