PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyolefin-based resin foam having lightweight, high productivity, capable of standing weight of heavy material, suitable for a composite building material such as a tatami mat material (core material), a heat insulating material for floor, etc., and to provide a method for producing the polyolefin-based resin foam. SOLUTION: This polyolefin-based resin foam has spindle-shaped foams 5a at the central part, 1.1-2.5 average value of aspect ratio Dz/Dxy of the internally existing foams, 7-30 times expansion ratio and >=500μm average value of Dxy. This method for producing the polyolefin-based resin foam comprises reacting a polyolefin-based resin with a monomer for modification to modify the resin, kneading the obtained modified resin with a thermal decomposition type chemical blowing agent, forming the obtained foamable resin composition into a sheetlike shape, heating the obtained foamable sheet at <225 deg.C, expanding the sheet only in the thickness direction of the sheet and forming the spindle- shaped foams 5a.
