PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound capable of providing an electron transfer agent dispersible in a photosensitive layer at a high concentration and having a high electron mobility by converting a substituent group at the 2-position in a dicyanomethylene compound into phenyl group. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 and R2 are each cyano, nitro, a halogen, a (substituted)heterocyclic ring, a (substituted) condensed ring, a (substituted)acyclic hydrocarbon, a (substituted)cyclic saturated hydrocarbon or an alkoxy of the (substituted)acyclic hydrocarbon; R3 is H, R1 or R2], e.g. 3,5-di-t-butyl-4-oxo-2-phenyl-2,5-cyclohexan-1- ylidenepropanedinitrile. The compound represented by formula I is produced by a method, for reacting, e.g. 2,6-di-t-butyl-p-benzoquinone with pheylmagnesium bromide, subsequently adding potassium t-butoxide to the resultant compound, then adding lead (IV) oxide to the prepared compound and subsequently adding malononitrile and titanium (IV) chloride, or the like, to the reactional product, or the like.
