PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impede a misfire due to purge action of fuel vapor. SOLUTION: Fuel vapor generated in a fuel tank 26 is purged in an engine intake passage. When the concentration of a mixture around a spark plug 7 is judged to be the limit concentration or more at ignition time when the fuel vapor is purged, a purge is stopped, a purge amount is decreased, injection timing is advanced, or ignition timing is delayed so as to decrease concentration of the mixture around the spark plug 7 at ignition time below the limit concentration.
