PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent the damage of oil seal of motor by pressure variation during the operation of a reciprocating drive apparatus for a shower pipe. SOLUTION: In this reciprocating drive apparatus 3 for a shower pipe 1 having a constitution in which the rotation drive of a motor 4 attached to the rear end of an outer cylinder 12 is converted through a reciprocating motion change mechanism 5 to the reciprocating motion of a sliding cylinder 8 inserted into the outer cylinder 12 in the direction of shaft line and the shower pipe 1 connected to the sliding cylinder 8 is reciprocated in the direction of the shaft line, an inner pressure release valve 31 to become an open state when the inner pressure at the rear part of the outer cylinder 12 is raised with the backward movement (retreat) of the sliding cylinder 8 is installed at the rear of the outer cylinder 12.
