PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform friction cladding of different kind metals against a metallic substrate by roughening the surface of the metallic substrate in advance, and pressing a clad material to the surface during rotation. SOLUTION: For example, an annular sliding part 2 of an iron inclined plate 1 of a compressor in an air conditioner for vehicles is used as a metallic substrate, and a different kind metal of aluminum is friction-cladded on the surface of the part 2 as a clad material. At that time, the surface of the sliding part 2 is roughened in advance by a shot blasting method to a range with ten-point average roughness Rz of 20-100μm, and more preferably 40-60μm. The clad material is pressed to the roughened sliding part 2 while rotating, and is friction- clad so as to form a friction clad metal material. In this case, since the surface of the sliding part 2 is roughened, friction heat is increased against the clad material, and the clad material is quickly melted. Also, the melted clad material is filled into the roughened fine part of the sliding part 2, and an anchor effect acts, so as to realize friction cladding having a strong jointing strength.
