PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and selectively produce an erythro-3-amino-2-hydroxybutyric acid derivative having a desired steric configuration by using a specific aminoaldehyde derivative as a starting material, converting the material into an intermediate having an erythro-configuration selectivity and inducing the product to a carboxylic acid. SOLUTION: An erythro-3-amino-2-hydroxybutyronitrile derivative of formula II (R2 is an alkylcarbonyl, or the like) having a specific steric configuration is produced by reacting a 2-aminoaldehyde derivative of formula I (R1 is a 1-6C alkyl, or the like; P2 and P2 are each an aralkyl, an aralkyloxycarbonyl, or the like) with a metal cyanide in the presence of an acid chloride and/or an acid anhydride or reacting the derivative with an organic cyanide in the presence of a Lewis acid. The objective erythro-3-amino-2-hydroxybutyric acid derivative of formula III (R3 is H; Q1 and Q2 are each H, an aralkyl or the like) is obtained by treating the nitrile derivative of formula II with an acid in water or in a water-containing solvent or in an alcoholic solvent of the formula R3OH. |
