PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article which is thin and compact when in the form of a package but which recovers its thickness when taken out of a packing bag and used, thus providing a sense of security during use. SOLUTION: This absorbent article includes a liquid-permeable top sheet 2, a liquid-impermeable, moisture-permeable back sheet 3 and a liquid-retaining absorbent 4 interposed between both sheets. A foamed material with a density of 5 to 35 kg/cm3 and a thickness of 1 to 10 mm at no load and a compression recovery rate of 60% or more is disposed between the back sheet 3 and the absorbent 4, between the top sheet 2 and the absorbent 4, or inside the absorbent 4, or in a plurality of portions thereof, and an adhesive is substantially uniformly applied in a dispersed fashion to approximately the overall surface of at least one side of the foamed material or to approximately the overall surface of contact of a member making contact with the foamed material, to fix the foamed material in a predetermined position by adhesion.
