PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a water-absorbing polyurethane foam having excellent hydrophilicity, water absorption properties, water retention characteristics, and biodegradability all together by utilizing a lignocellulose substance as the starting material. SOLUTION: In the process for producing a water-absorbing polyurethane foam by reacting a polyol with a polyisocyanate in the presence of a foam stabilizer, a catalyst, and a blowing agent, a polyol containing 100 pts.wt. lignocellulose liquefied product to be obtained by subjecting a lignocellulose substance and a polyhydric alcohol containing not less than 60 wt.% polyether polyol having an oxymethylene group to liquefaction reaction in the presence of an acidic catalyst and 5-100 pts.wt. high molecular weight polyol having an average molecular weight of 1,000-5,000 is reacted with a polyisocyanate at an equivalent number of 0.2-1.0 time the equivalent number of the total active hydrogens of the components compounded. |
