PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of improving a coil shape to restrain occurrence of wound shape fault attributable to pinch rolls. SOLUTION: The roll gap of pinch rolls arranged in a coiler in a hot rolling line of a steel strip is so set that the load current value of the pinch rolls while the steel strip is wound will be in the range of 170 to 500 A. Assuming W (mm) for the width of the steel strip and I (A) for the load current value of the pinch roll during winding of the steel strip, the roll gap of the pinch rolls arranged in the coiler in the hot rolling line of steel strip is so set that I will satisfy the formula 0.03×W+172<I<0.11×W+170.
