PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epitaph capable of displaying pictures of the deceased with an excellent appearance over a long period together with posthumous Buddhist names by arranging plural areas on a surface of an epitaph body detachably constituted of a base stone, and carving characters and recessed/projecting pictures in the respective areas. SOLUTION: An epitaph 10 is composed of an epitaph body 11, a base stone 12, a bolt 17 and a nut 18. In the epitaph body 11, a stone such as granite is formed in a rectangular plate shape, plural areas 13 for carving characters and pictures are arranged on a surface, and a bolt hole 14 is formed in a lower end part. Areas 13a, 13b for carving characters such as posthumous Buddhist names of the deceased and pictures of the deceased are arranged in the areas 13. A recess/projection is formed by a sand blaster, the pictures of the deceased are carved, and a rock pattern is embedded in a recessed part. The base stone 12 is formed of a stone of a rectangular solid, and an installing hole 15 penetrated through a bottom surface from the upper surface center and a bolt hole 16 penetrated through the back side from the front side are formed to thereby display the pictures of the deceased with an excellent appearance over a long period and as well as to simplify attaching work when carving the pictures on the epitaph body.
