PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a surface treating compsn. capable of imparting excellent corrosion resistance equal to or above that by chromate treatment and phosphate treatment to a galvanized steel sheet and capable of obtaining a surface treated galvanized steel sheet good in adhesion for a coating material. SOLUTION: As to the surface treating method for a galvanized steel sheet, the surface of a galvanized steel sheet is coated with a (A) surface conditioning soln. contg. (a) a sulfonic hardening catalyst of 0.1 to 5 pts.wt. and (b) acid capable of etching zinc of 0.1 to 5 pts.wt. in water of 100 pts.wt., which is dried, next, the surface is coated with (B) a film forming compsn. contg. (c) a hydroxy group-contg. organic resin and (d) a hardener as resin components, and in which hardening reaction is promoted by the sulfonic hardening catalyst (a), and heating and drying are executed. Moreover, the galvanized steel sheet is obtd. by being subjected to surface treatment by this surface treating method.
