COMPOSITION OF ARTIFICIAL MARBLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve appearance by using silica and glass powder as filler in a composition to suppress the deterioration of physical property such as hardness and strength and to control transparent feeling without adding a component such as a coloring agent strong in hiding property. SOLUTION: The transparent feeling of a product of an artificial marble to be obtained is controlled by using 2 kinds of silica and glass powder simultaneously as the filler. The silica and glass powder are blended with a resin such as a vinyl ester resin in a ratio designed to attain the desired product strength (toughness) and the transparent feeling. The composition of the artificial marble is adjusted by mixing a curing agent and various kinds of additives in a prescribed ratio and stirring the mixture with a stirrer, or the like. The composition is defoamed by vacuum under a reduced pressure of about 3-50 Torr. The defoamed composition of the artificial marble is poured into a prescribed metallic mold and heated at about 50-110 deg.C for about 30-120 min to accelerate the copolymerization reaction of the vinyl ester resin in the composition with a crosslinking agent to be cured and formed.
