The system (1) comprises a first portion (2) which includes a means (4) for engaging with parts of the wheelchair frame and is provided with a first horizontal beam (5), a second horizontal beam (9) which is mounted on the first portion and props up a stand (7) when the wheelchair is tipped, and a second portion (3) anchored to the floor and provided with a device (6) for adjusting the angle of the stand, the latter including a grab means (8) for securing to one of the beams. Independent claims are also included for (a) a vehicle fitted with this mounting system and (b) a method for safely securing a wheelchair to an underlay by attaching an engagement means on a first beam to parts of the wheelchair frame, and unfolding a stand anchored to the floor so that a grab means on the stand can be secured to one of the beams, whilst using a second beam to prop up the stand in case the wheelchair is tipped.
