PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely performing fusion of waste consisting of metal and electrically nonconductive inorganic matters in a waste fusion/solidification treatment process, to improve the volume reduction ratio of the waste, to reduce economical loss and to facilitate the repair of a system. SOLUTION: This treatment process comprises: using a nonconductive ceramic canister 18 and charging, first, a metal 20 into the canister 18 and melting the metal 20 and fusing the inorganic matter 21 with the molten metal 20; and treating the molten metal 20 and fused nonconductive inorganic matter 21 in such a state that both of them are retained in the canister 18. Thus, in the treatment process, since the need of using any special ceramic material as the material of the ceramic canister 18 is eliminated, cost of the ceramic canister 18 can be reduced to effect reduction in economical loss. Also, since heat release is inhibited from being caused from the ceramic canister 18 itself, the requirement for high strength of the canister 18 can be reduced and accordingly, the thickness of the canister 18 can be made thinner, to improve the volume reduction ratio of the waste and to surly fuse the nonconductive inorganic matter. Further, since the molten metal 20 and fused nonconductive inorganic matter 21 are treated in such a state that both of them are retained in the canister 18, and the possibility of causing problems such as passage plugging due to the flow of fused waste, can be eliminated, the repair of such a waste treatment system can be facilitated.
