PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the degree to which footrest plates installed at the front of a wheelchair in a shower bathing device are opened apart. SOLUTION: This wheelchair footrest mechanism 200 is used with a shower bathing device comprising a closing container body which closes its outer periphery relative to a bather seated on a wheelchair 10, with a number of spray nozzles disposed in the closing container body for spraying water toward the overall body of the bather. A pair of right and left footrest bodies 30 attached to the front of the wheelchair 10 comprise cylinders 15, 17 fitting into a vertical frame, and footrest plates 30A attached to the cylinders while each in an approximately horizontal attitude. Positioning means are provided between the vertical frame and the cylinders, so that the pair of right and left footrest bodies 30 is pivotable between a forward position (a) and both outer positions (b). The degree to which the footrest plates are opened apart is thus increased.
