PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject cellulose ester film that has excellent film slippage properties and low turbidity and is useful as a member for a liquid crystal display by admixing fine particles of silica with a specific average size of the primary particles and a specific value of the apparent density to a cellulose ester film. SOLUTION: The fine particles of silicon dioxide with an average primary particle size of <=20 nm and an apparent density of >=70 g/l are admixed to cellulose ester film. In a preferred embodiment, the average primary particle size is in the range of 5-12 nm, and the apparent density is 100-200 g/l. The amount of the silica fine particles is preferably 0.01-0.3, particularly 0.08-0.12 pt.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the cellulose ester. The fine particles can be prepared by burning a mixed gas of the vaporized silicon tetrachloride and hydrogen in the air at 1,000-1,200 deg.C. The cellulose ester is an ester of cellulose with a lower fatty acid.
