PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new bacillus, i.e., bacillus exhibiting such growth rate as to be a specific generation time in a complete medium and capable of degrading oils-and-fats aerobically, high in the ability to biodegrade oil-and- fat-contg. effluent, therefore useful in effluent treatment processes and the like. SOLUTION: This bacillus which exhibits such growth rate as to be <=30 min in generation time at 30 deg.C in a complete medium is a new bacillus capable of biodegrading oils-and-fats aerobically (e.g. Bacillus subtilis FERM P-17512), high in the ability to biodegrade oil-and-fat-contg. effluent, therefore useful in effluent treatment processes and the like. The new bacillus is obtained by the following practice: powder obtained by grinding rock is suspended is sterile water, the resultant suspension is then diluted as appropriate and subsequently applied onto an agar medium, and incubated overnight at 30 deg.C; a colony of high growth rate is picked up from the resultant colonies and then cultured in a complete medium followed by isolating the objective microorganisms high in the ability to clean oil-and-fat-contg. effluent.
