PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a drilling work or a cutting work by a method wherein the respective advantages of laser working and water jet working are effectively utilized and a melting process and a removing process are safely and reliably executed at the part to be treated of a workpiece. SOLUTION: This laser and water jet composite working device is provided with a laser head 1 and a water jet head 2 separately and individually effecting irradiation with a laser beam and a jet of water jet. In this case, an intermittent jet control means is further provided to effect control such that water jet from the water jet head 2 is intermittently jet against the part to be melted of workpiece by the laser beam from the laser head 1.
