PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold a power source until printing is finished even when a human sensor does not sense a person by providing the sensor and a means for deciding an operating state of a printer, and disposing a means for controlling the power source of the printer. SOLUTION: A level setting circuit 3 is connected to a human sensor 2 to set a detecting distance of an infrared detection signal of the sensor 2. The sensor 2 outputs a 'high' level when detecting a person within a distance set by the circuit 3 by a detected infrared signal, and inputs the signal to a signal processing circuit 4. The circuit 4 removes chattering of its input signal. When the circuit 4 effectively confirms that a signal of the sensor 2 is the 'high', the circuit 4 recognizes the signal connected to a main power source 5 as the 'high' level to turn on the power source 5. When the power source 5 is turned on, a printing unit 6 starts operating to allow printing.
