The amplifier comprises two long-tailed pairs (T1- T2, T3-T4) which function both as transconductance stages and as current path diverting elements. The collectors of one transistor in each pair (T2, T3) are connected to each other and to the supply line (Vcc). The bases of these transistors are also connected together, as are those of the remaining transistors, a control voltage being applied between the pairs of bases. Differential RF output is taken from the collectors which are not joined together, and a differential RF input is applied between the 'tail' circuits, preferably via a feedback resistor (RE), so that the transistor pairs operate in common-base mode w.r.t. RF amplification. An Independent claim is included for a cellular mobile telephone including an amplifier according to the invention.
